Oxidative Stress
On April 9, 2007 OXIS entered into a worldwide license under which OXIS granted exclusive rights to its organoselenium portfolio of products, including BXT 51072, to Synvista Therapeutics, formerly Alteon, Inc.
The Oxis International, Inc. develops technologies and products to research, diagnose, treat and prevent diseases of oxidative stress associated with damage from free radical and reactive oxygen species and the related increased inflammation that accompanies oxidative stress.
Oxis has several therapeutic compounds that are available to be licensed including anti-inflammatory and several therapeutic antioxidant mimics with potential applications in the treatment of neurodegenerative (Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s), cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and other conditions.
OXIS’s customers include leading pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, Glaxo Smith Kline and Genzyme and universities such as Baylor College of Medicine, University of Minnesota, Virginia School of Technology, strategic business partners such as Minitube of America and Minitube Germany, distributors and government laboratories.
OXIS’ goal is to control both direct cellular abnormalities and damage from reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS).
OXIS is in the process of early stage development of therapeutic molecules that have the ability to counteract some of these unwanted responses and perhaps be able to counteract different health abnormalities.
OXIS’ consumer products strategy addresses very important health concerns including aging and age-related disorders that are increasing with trends in US demographics.
These concerns include:
Brain health
Immunity against diseases
Anti-aging/skin health
Inflammation
Detoxification
Blood sugar regulation
